A website UI concept for a friend’s online Videography portfolio. In an attempt to showcase his work, Chris reached out to me for help designing his site and maximising the content he had to offer, and I had previously worked with him to design his own personal logo, something I was keen to revisit as well for a brand refresh.

Showcasing Talented Camerawork

Chris’ strengths lie in exceptional filming and video editing capabilities, and my aim with his site was to put those on a pedestal, with isolated video players on a dark colour palette to add a cinematic quality to his work as well as focus the viewer’s eyes to the content they were browsing on the site. A subtle “Snapshot” sidebar would also provide some handy insight into any given product, be it the EXIF of a photo to show the focal length and camera settings used, or the software Chris had used to achieve his results for digital content for his various clients and employers.

Wireframing

My initial thought process for wireframing the site would be to make it as clean and straightforward as possible, as what mattered was immediate access for potential employers and clients alike; A format of simple and straightforward information, testimonials from Chris’ previous projects, as well as a contact button made up the landing page, from there visitors could access his Video and Photography galleries using the ever-present Navigation Menu.

Colour Palette & Themeing

My final concept and subsequent branding and logo designs that were tied into the UI. The colour palette of choice was a dark charcoal and red ensemble that were centred around the familiar colours of a recording button (a red circle). The elements of corner framing I added also helped to cement this further and hit home that Chris’ site was heavily orientated around camera work and video production.
