Nx Reporting

Nx Reporting

B2B SaaS Product

2026

Reporting made easy

A B2B SaaS product that would allow Gait Labs, Sports Scientists and other medical sites to convert their patient data, quickly and easily, into a tangible report output for review by medical panels, to aid in providing informed medical decisions for their patients. This product needed to be light for its initial offering due to short timeframes and urgency in the market, to replace two existing products; one an ageing but powerful tool beloved by users, another a failed successor that was not able to give users the solution they needed.

NxRP aimed to be both an immediate, and also a long-term replacement for both of these products when given development cycles once it had entered the market; the initial launch based upon this design has since been praised and well-received by eager users and gives us a solid foundation to build upon and provide customers with enhacements in newer development cycles.

What did our customers want?

What does the product aim to achieve through great UX design?

"We loved the control we had in Polygon, can we get that back again?"

"We reverted back to the old software, the newer offering didn't give us what we wanted"

"We don't have much time to turn reports around, they need to be quick to go to patient review panels to make informed medical decisions to help our patients recover"

"We would love to see a range of screen previews, to have a flexible viewing window while building my report"

"Having a fullscreen view that I can see graph plots in-detail would be a key feature"

A new offering

Vicon's ageing software of Polygon, albeit beloved by users, was in need of a replacement. It's successor was a joint venture that did not quite live up to expectations from both the company and customer's alike, so the successor to the successor (where I came in) had to be something that overshadowed the newer product and provide our users with the product they actually wanted…namely, a new Polygon.

Nexus Reports aims to give control back to users eventually, but for the initial offering at launch, the timescales I had to work with for the design were too strict to allow us to explore these features (something I was keen to do for the first update in v1.1). The solution offered was to provide curated templates, that could negate the need for the customers to craft their own templates from scratch, code them in-house at the customer's request to provide edge usecases with a solution they could utilise, or allow trusted customers to code their own with advanced parameters being unlocked.

REPORT LAYOUT CREATION

We conducted extensive UX sessions with our customers to understand their pain points with our outgoing offering. This was a golden opportunity for me and the rest of the UX team to gain genuine insight into our customers (sadly a rare occurrence for us despite our vocal desire for more exposure to solve issues). To make Nexus Reports' initial offering to customers as streamlined as possible the decision was made to provide the users with curated templates for certain move sets, correlated to their typical data streams. I crafted a matrix of all possible page layout combinations that would then be dissected further into forming the fully provided report templates for our customers, using existing report examples, Subject Matter Expertise, and customer voice to craft a product that covered as much of their need as possible. Also employing NiceGUI to code in certain elements of the layout in-build (a new platform for me to get to grips with). Customers could also request more customised templates be provided to them in rare instances.
